摘 要:After a survey of the relations between the vocabulary knowledge at different levels and language competence, the author has formulated in this paper his hypothesis that the acquisition of vocabulary is a developmental continuum starting from phonetic recognition, proceeding towards word recognition and ending with word reproduction. The result of his experiment has proves his hypothesis true. The author then comes to the conclusion that, to guarantee vocabulary acquisition, the learning of written Chinese should be attached importance right from the beginning stage of teaching, and it is equally important to teach oral and written Chinese in a balanced way.
