摘 要:The attachment of a solid particle to a liquid drop has important applications for the cleaning of air pollution or for drug delivery.We investigate experimentally the conditions under which a solid particle can attach below a pendant drop.A high-speed camera is used to visualize the particle attachment dynamics.We found a critical particle size below which the particle can stay attached to the drop,while larger particles separate from the drop by gravity.We demonstrated that the particle attachment to the pendant drop depends on the particle density and size,the surface tension of the liquid,but also the volume of the drop.The attachment conditions can be understood by a balance between the weight of the particle and the drop compared to the pulling of surface tension.
