摘　　要：＜正＞This paper tries to make a linguistic survey of Bing Xin’s short stories, which is based on the theories of functional grammar. It intends to search for significant features on cohesion （thematic progression） in Bing Xin’s short stories by means of a quantitative method. It attempts to find some writing features from the point of foregrounding in Bing Xin’s short stories and to explain how a particular style is achieved by using a particular characteristic of language in the writing and to explain how it relates to artistic functions of the text from the perspective of stylistics and linguistics. It is also intended to try to apply the theory of systemic-functional grammar to the study of Chinese literary discourse.
